The Heart of the Action
(& Inaction)
Sombrero Beach | Marathon

One of the prettiest beaches in the Keys, Sombrero Beach is a favorite for swimming, snorkeling, and picnicking. It's also a nesting spot for loggerhead turtles from April through October. And it's conveniently located just 2.5 miles from the resort.
Dolphin Research Center | Grassy Key

Swim with dolphins, paint with dolphins (seriously!), or just observe them up close at this nonprofit sanctuary. It’s a feel-good stop with an emphasis on animal care, research, and connection.
Pigeon Key

Home to railroad workers in the early 1900s, this five-acre island is now a fascinating historic site and nature retreat. Reach it by bike (or foot) from the Old Seven Mile Bridge for a scenic approach.
Turtle Hospital | Marathon

This working hospital rescues and rehabilitates sea turtles before releasing them back into the wild. The tour is educational, emotional, and unforgettable — especially for kids, but you're going to be touched, too. Trust us. Be sure to book ahead.
Coco Plum Beach | Marathon

Less crowded than Sombrero and even more peaceful, Coco Plum is a great spot for beachcombing, kayaking, and birdwatching. The beach is less than five miles from The Reef at Marathon.
Key West

Only an hour’s drive from the resort, Key West is an easy and unforgettable day trip. Stroll Duval Street, tour Hemingway’s house, grab a slice of key lime pie, and don't forget to snap a photo at the Southernmost Point. It's practically required. Stay for the nightly Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square.
Crane Point Hammock | Marathon

This spot, walking distance from The Reef at Marathon, has a bit of everything — 63 acres of preserved tropical hardwood hammock forest, nature trails, a history museum, rescued bird aviary, and butterfly garden. Oh, and be sure to dip your feet in the tidal pool for a fish pedicure.
Bahia Honda State Park | Bahia Honda Key

A 20-minute drive the resort, Bahia Honda is consistently ranked one of the top beaches in the U.S. Crystal-clear water, soft sand, and postcard-perfect views make it worth the trip.
Sunset on Old Seven Mile Bridge

Locals know: The pedestrian section of the Old Seven Mile Bridge offers one of the best sunset views in the Keys. Walk or bike out in time for golden hour and soak it all in.
Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters | Marathon

Touch tanks, coral reef exhibits, and stingray snorkeling — this interactive aquarium lets you get up close with marine life. It’s a perfect half-day outing for families, and just a few minutes from the resort.
Fishing Charters & Boat Rentals

Marathon is a world-class fishing destination. Whether you're chasing tarpon, snapper, or mahi-mahi, local guides can get you on the water. You can also rent a boat by the day or hour and chart your own course.
Big Pine Key & No Name Key

A quieter counterpoint to Key West, Big Pine Key is home to the endangered Key deer — tiny, cuter than Bambi, and often spotted roadside. Stop by the Blue Hole for alligator sightings, or drive across to No Name Key for scenic, off-the-grid exploring. It’s low-key and totally worth it.
